Oregon 
Cannabis lounges operate as semi-private social clubs with varying approaches to membership enrollment. Some allow for walk-ins and others require an invite. Because they are privately zoned and owner-operated, lounges aren’t subject to Oregon’s Indoor Clean Air Act because they don’t have paid employees or volunteers for the state to protect.

  • The federal Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 recognized hemp as separate from marijuana and removed it from the federal Controlled Substances Act.

  • For farmers, hemp is an attractive rotation crop. It breathes in carbon dioxide, detoxifies soil and provides it with nutrients and it prevents soil erosion. Hemp requires little water and no pesticides, so it is environmentally friendly, its proponents say.

In a statement Monday, Noem says she rejected the legislation mainly because it would make it more difficult for law enforcement. Noem has said she's worried that drug detection dogs flag hemp like marijuana and that the plants look alike, making it difficult for authorities to determine what is legal and what is not.

Paris Kentucky 
As early as 1790, Bourbon County residents were shipping hemp fiber on flatboats to markets along the river. By 1810, the county boasted two hemp mills that processed 50,000 yards of fiber per year, leading the way in the amount of raw material produced at 796 tons (followed by Scott with 599, Fayette with 595, Mercer with 433, and Woodford with 417, and outside of the region, Mason County, reporting at 581 tons.
