Endocannabinoid System was 1st Discovered in 1992

CBD is a cannabinoid! The acronym = Cannabidiol = Cannabinoid!

CBD works with and through the Endocannabinoid System

The one who discovered the endocannabinoid system is a GREAT MAN!

The First Cannabinoid was discovered in 1964 by Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, PhD. Dr. Mechoulam was a professor of medicinal chemistry and natural products at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. He was the first to synthesize the Cannabinoid Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Three decades later, in 1992, Dr. Mechoulam made another important discovery. Dr. Mechoulam and his team identified anandamide, a naturally occurring human neurotransmitter. Anandamide was named after the anskrit word ananda, which means "bliss" or "delight. Anandamide, also known as N-arachidonoylethanolamine or AEA, is an endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter (the word endogenous means it is produced within the body). The discovery of the neurotransmitter anandamide led to the subsequent discovery of the endocannabinoid system.

Hence, in 1992, the newly discovered endocannabinoid system as named for the cannabis plant from which Dr. Mechoulam synthesize the 1st THC back in 1964.

The endocannabinoid system is composed of receptor sites and endogenous endocannabinoids  throughout the body. This widespread system is found in the brain, organs, glands, connective tissue and immune cells and it has regulatory roles in many physiological Process including appetite, pain-sensation, mood and memory. The Primary purpose of this system revolves around maintaining balance in the body; this is known as homeostasis.

What is a Cannabinoid?
There are 3 types of Cannabinoids. The first type is the one produced in our own human body known as "endogenous cannabinoids". The second type is produced by plants and is called phytocannabinoids. The third type is synthetically engineered in a lab and is known as "synthetic cannabinoids"

CBD from Plants = Phytocannabinoid

Regardless of the type, cannabinoids act as neuromodulators and help regulate every physiological system such as our nervous system, immune system and muscular system. Cannabinoids are an essential component involved in the keeping of the body system balanced and stable maintaining what's known as homeostatic balance.

Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants
Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia. Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention. A particular disclosed class of cannabinoids useful as neuroprotective antioxidants is formula (I) wherein the R group is independently selected from the group consisting of H, CH3, and COCH3.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is one of science’s newest and most exciting discoveries. The ECS regulates relaxation, eating, sleeping, certain inflammation responses and even cognitive function. There are two types of cannabinoid receptors found throughout the body (CB1 and CB2), but they are most abundant in the brain and immune system respectively. In a nutshell, your ECS is responsible for making sure your entire body is working optimally—no small task!
